Samsung took a move right out of Apple’s playbook with the ML-1630 monochrome laser printer and created the first printer you don’t want to hide on a shelf or behind a cabinet.
At first glance, most people probably couldn’t even tell you what the ML-1630 is from a distance, a nice start. Add in its quiet printing (just 45 dB, or slightly louder than a house normally is or your new Bosch dishwasher) and this is as close as you get to stealth-ing a laser printer.
The ML-1630’s good looks do command a price premium, however, so if you’re a function-over-form sorta geek look elsewhere. With a $200 retail price the ML-1630 is about twice as expensive as the typical budget monochrome laser printer but doesn’t boast exceptional stats: up to 17 pages per minute print speed (good, but not great) and up to 1200×600 dpi resolution (solid, and more than enough for text), but no support for networking.
The ML-1630 is compatible with both Mac (Mac OS X 10.3 or later) and Windows (2000 or later).
The cheapest price online at the moment is $181.99 (+$9.99 shipping) from TheNerds.net, or if you prefer buying from a larger reseller, go with Amazon for $199.99 with free shipping.
