SuperTalent 8GB

I’m not sure why I’m continually impressed by the rate flash drives are developing—next year, they’ll have twice the capacity and cost half as much. But I’m still awed by these little things all the time.

Here’s one that stores 8GB in about the same area as a quarter. That’s enough space to store about $2,000 worth of music from the iTunes store, making it possibly the most valuable thing in your pocket.

But the drive itself costs less than 25 bucks including shipping.

I remember a few years ago when 1GB flash drives in the larger and more traditional form factor cost $300. Now we’ve got eight-times the capacity at less than one-tenth cost and physical size.

If only government could demonstrate such rapid progress and efficiency…
