If your car is a frequent business-trip companion, consider the Autonet Mobile router. Installed into the trunk, it creates a personal Wi-Fi, 3G hot spot anywhere.

Multiple devices can share the Internet without slowing its speed. You connect wirelessly to the Autonet access point in exactly the same way you would for a stationary access point. Speeds will depend on the data size as well as the strength of your cellular signal, but reports are its competitive with portable, handheld devices like an iPhone.

Autonet Mobile is about to become much more common: It’s now an add-on option for Cadillac, Chrysler, and VW. The monthly subscription fee is $29 a month.

We featured a few weeks back a Nikon digital camera with built-in pico projector. Here we go again, but this time one that works with thr Apple iPod.

It’s the PK101 Pico Pocket Projector from Optoma. Smaller than any iPod and weighing only 4 ounces, this little baby displays images as large as 60 inches up to 10 feet from your iPod.

At 4.1 x 2.0 x 0.6 inches, it is not much bigger than the remote control bundled with many larger projectors, yet it’s able to accommodate not only a DLP imaging engine and an LED lamp but also a rechargeable battery capable of powering the device for 1.5 hours—and even a tiny speaker.

We were very impressed with the image quality and ease of use. We were able to get images up to about 8 feet diagonally from about 12 feet away. Color was good, but the better the resolution of your images or video the better the projection quality will be.

Based upon the latest LED illumination advances and DLP imaging technology, it’ll give you two hours of viewing time. it’s got a built-in, re-chargeable battery that you hook up via USB or with the included AC power adapter.

Buy for $219 from Amazon

Intel X25-M Mainstream 160GB SSD drive is getting rave reviews.

A solid state drive – or SSD – consists of NAND flash-memory chips and lack moving parts that give it an edge over regular drives (more shock-resistant, fewer chances of mechanical failure, and they’re able to withstand jostling and sudden impacts). While they’re more expensve, their speed is unsurpassed…65 microsecond latency versus a standard hard drive at 4000 microseconds.

This drives speed is impressive and it should be. It’s aimed at the mainstream market and is ideal for those that will be making the move to Windows 7.

So here comes Barnes & Noble to the e-reader market just in time for the holidays but just as estimates come out that 10 million electronic book readers will be sold worldwide in 2010.

The Nook eBook reader is actually Plastic Logic’s QUE eBook reader to compete with rival Amazon’s Kindle line. The device, which has a six-inch display, is the same size and price as the standard version of Amazon’s Kindle and will ship in November. You can pre-order now.

Specs: 8.5 x 11 inches, less than a third of an inch thick, weighes 11.2 ounces, a 3.5 inch color touchscreen LCD at the bottom of the display to browse through book covers, 2GB of storage (about 1,500 eBooks), and battery life of up to ten days without recharging with wireless off. You can also use it as an MP3 player to listen to audio books or music. The nook holds about 26 hours of audio and a has a built-in mono speaker as well as a stereo headphone jack.

As for availability of book titles to buy and download (via WiFi and through AT&Ts 3G network), B&N plans on offer out of the gate more than one million e-books for sale when the Nook is released. Amazon has roughly a third of the inventory of B&N (so, take that).

But in one of the stupidest moves we’ve seen in some time, B&N has decided not to sell the Nook through it’s more than 700 brick-and-mortar stores. You’ll be able to play with a demo unit but not actually buy one to take home. Booksellers will order a device for in-store customers from the BN.com website to be shipped to their home. For whatever reason – small stock, security, whatever – it defeats the purpose of having a demo unit customers can play with and end the experience with no instant gratification. Dumb beyond belief!

Corsair calls it “the most rugged high-capacity flash drive on the market” thanks to its CNC-milled, aircraft-grade aluminum casing which makes it “practically indestructible”. They back up that claim through independent testing that saw the new Flash Survivor dropped, baked, boiled, encased in ice, zapped in a microwave and even run over by an SUV (enough already).

To listen to Internet radio, Napster, MP3s and more, you need a bunch of equipment, right? Wrong. Wi-Fi music systems are picking up steam in time for the holidays and they’re now packing a lot of features and simplicity into small boxes.

Take for instance the Logitech Squeezebox Boom. It’s not the most elegant looking Wi-Fi radio, but specs-wise it’s a beaut.

As long as you’ve got a net-connected router or a WiFi connection, you’re ready to listen to tons of radio stations, internet-only stations, Last.fm, Napster and MP3 tunes. It packs 30 watts of sound from two 3/4-inch tweeters and two 3-inch woofers, as a auxiliary-in and headphone-in jacks, six memory presets, an optional subwoofer output, and remote.

As for sound, it’s much weightier and punchier than you’d think. It’s got XL Technology that allows its smaller speakers to achieve great results. It nicely fills even large rooms with decent sound…loud and clear, rich in low and mid frequencies with tweeters can handle the watts.

Mouse buttons are passé, or so says our friends at Apple. The Apple Magic Mouse replaces the Mighty Mouse, has no buttons and sports a “seamless multi-touch surface.”

According to Apple, that multitouch surface covers the entire device, enabling users to scroll in any direction or swipe through Web pages just by moving their fingers across the top.

Apple says the Magic Mouse “won’t confuse a scroll with a swipe,” because of its embedded ‘magical brain’. In short, Apple’s trying to mirror the multitouch functionality of its laptop trackpad in a mouse.

It’s Bluetooth only, so if you want a wired mouse, Apple has rebranded the Mighty Mouse as the ‘Apple Mouse’. How convenient.

There’s was little doubt Cisco (owner of Pure Digital) wouldn’t take long to hit back at Apple for their iPod nano with on-board camcorder. It wasn’t that long.

Now there’s the Flip MinoHD 2nd Generation camcorder with eight gigabytes of capacity (versus 4GB) and a bigger two-inch LCD display (up from 1.5 inches). The double RAM capacity gives users now two hours of 720p (1280×720) video.

In addition to its signature, flip-out USB plug, it also now comes with an HDMI connection (despite them being cheap and not including at least one, short, HDMI cable). Also new: a “Magic Movie” software mode that “automatically trims and arranges a user’s selected video content into their own movie.”

So compared to the Apple’s iPod nano the new Flip Mino HD v2 is more expensive ($50 more), but does have HD video where the nano doesn’t. On the ‘flip’ side, it doesn’t play music or have an FM radio or have the looks of the nano.

It all comes down to the features you want in your pocket. That’s something you should do in the privacy of your own home.

Starck. Philippe Starck. This French product designer is probably best known for his spectacular interior designs and mass produced consumer goods like toothbrushes, chairs, and even houses. Now he’s designed (or re-designed) the tired and boring hard drive enclosure to create the new LaCie Starck Hard Drive.

Available in capacities ranging from 320 to 500 gigabytes for the portable model (seen at the top of the above photo) and one to two terabytes for the external, these drives feature curvy, shiny, organically-shaped front surfaces with tough gray shells.

The desktop version’s front is touch-sensitive, allowing you to open applications, like Firefox or Word, with the touch of a digit using LaCie’s Destkop Manager software. For added effect, it’s got a status LED light that shines an orange plus sign — Starck’s signature symbol — on the front.

Optical mouses freed us from mouse pads, cotton swabs and alcohol. But to be honest, they don’t work well on transparent or highly polished surfaces. Here’s one that does.

The wireless Performance Mouse MX from Logitech works even on a glass desktop. Instead of tracking its position by looking at the direct reflection of a laser that illuminates the surface from beneath, this mouse ignores the reflection completely. Instead, it looks at the light scattered off minute imperfections and particles on the surface. Very cool.

Together with its nice design, dual scroll wheels (very rare), front/back buttons, a search button, and extended battery life (15-20 days between re-charging), this is a sweet mouse I’d even consider replacing my Apple Mac mouse with.

It’s got a slight six degree ergonomic curve to help out your wrists as well as a rubberized and textured wrist rest that keeps your hands from sliding. Another neat feature: ‘Windows Flip’, which displays thumbnail previews of all open windows at the touch of a button, and Taskbar Favorites, which maps open apps to shortcut keys using the position that they’re on the taskbar rather than a preset order.

The mouse is not the giant baseball-sized design, but instead a comfortable palm-sized model featuring BlueTrack technology. Both the keyboard and mouse connect via a 2.4GHz USB dongle, with a quoted 30 foot range.

Wacom has finally rolled out its new line of Bamboo Touch mutlitouch tablets that respond to both a pen stylus and your fingers.

There’s now five different products in Wacom’s Bamboo line with four different levels of sensativity and functionality. It’s the low-end model – the Bamboo Pen & Touch – we found most interesting that supports both technologies for less than a hundred bucks.

With Bamboo second generation, a simple tap with a finger on the digital pad will select an icon, open a menu or start an application. In addition, a gesture using two fingers enables users to simply rotate an image or document, flip through a digital photo album or presentation, scroll through a blog or an excel sheet and zoom in and out of a photo or map.

What you’re looking at is a laptop case from European design firm mitemite’s “unncessary objects lab.”

But protecting your precious from bumps and theft is hardly unnecessary, although maybe charging €60 for the privilege is.

Whatever, though, this newspaper-like case is unique, functional, and cool. Choose between Le Pais, La Vanguarda, La Grettezza dello Sport, or the International Herald Tribune.

Added bonus: pick a paper in a language not native to your country and you might be bugged less by strangers, too.

Moshi calls themselves a “purveyor of electronics fashion” and I can’t agree more. They’ve come out with some stylish accessories over the years – the MacBook cooler, and the Codex designer shell case for the MacBook – to name just a few.

Now comes the iLynx, a stylish, wedge-shaped silver hub that sits underneath the base of an iMac or a Cinema Display and provides four USB 2.0 ports and two FireWire 400 ports. But what makes it unique is that you can connect it to one USB and one FireWire port on your Mac and then use the combined power of those ports to provide enough juice for things like an external hard drive or display without needing an external AC adapter. Neat, huh?

One nice perk: Moshi includes a FireWire 400 cable. a FireWire 800-to-400 cable, and a USB cable with the iLynx.
